About Greyville Racecourse
Greyville sits close to the centre of Durban in KwaZulu-Natal, with the Royal Durban Golf Club laid out inside the track. Horses race right-handed on two surfaces: the main turf course and an all-weather Polytrack, which keeps racing going when the turf needs a rest or the weather turns.
The Durban July
Greyville's biggest day is the Durban July, run over 2,200 metres on the first Saturday in July. First run in 1897, it is the race most South Africans have a bet on, even those who only bet once a year, and it is the highlight of the KwaZulu-Natal winter racing season, when the best horses in the country head to Durban.
How to bet on Greyville races
On race day, open the horse racing meetings list and choose the Greyville meeting to see every race on the card, with runners, jockeys and odds. Pick your horse, add it to your bet slip and choose your stake. Short of time? Next races shows the races about to start across every meeting.
Reading a Greyville race card
Check the surface first: some horses run better on Polytrack than on turf, so compare their past runs on the same surface. Look at the distance, the draw and recent form, and see whether the horse has run well at Greyville before.
Greyville results
Results for every race go up on the results page as soon as they are official, so you can check your bets straight after the race. Our horse racing rules explain how every bet is settled.
